Drawing 04 / open hardware field index
The field index
Seventy-six open hardware projects worth building, ranked by community support, documentation, maturity and whether you can actually obtain the hardware. Each entry says what kind of buying path exists: a kit, a BOM, or a mix that depends on the vendor.
All 76, ranked
Editorial ranking · not a GitHub scoreLoading index…
Complete or partial kits, assembled hardware, or project-specific parts from a known supplier.
Designs, CAD or schematics are published, but you generally source the parts yourself.
Software is open; hardware availability and design openness vary by product or vendor.
Ranking is an editorial assessment of community support, documentation, maturity, visibility and hardware availability — not a precise measurement. Kit availability changes, and a published design does not automatically mean a complete device is for sale. Project links lead to official sites or repositories, not to OpenKit stock.

Now find the parts.
Start with the supply map: marketplaces for open hardware, specialist kit builders, and the component suppliers that fill the gaps.
Have a BOM already?
Paste it and let the matcher line it up against the parts index. No BOM leaves the browser.
